It’s a bit of an awkward moment to be talking about ski conditions in Western Canada because it feels a bit like we’re right in between two weather systems.

It was unseasonably hot over the weekend, but temperatures are falling and snow is expected to be hitting the mountains over the next few days. So what’s true on Wednesday afternoon when I’m writing this won’t necessarily be accurate by the time Saturday rolls around.
With that said, Lake Louise didn’t get hit with any new snow over the past seven days. Its season total, though, is sitting at 459 cm and — again — forecasts are calling for a fresh helping of snow very, very soon.
There’s a lot going on at the resort over the next couple weeks, with a Free Demo Day set for Saturday, the Tempe Lodge Takeover going down from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., too, and that same day also features a cool event called Girls Do Patrol. The event is essentially a workshop for female skiers aged 14-21 who are interested in what being a ski patroller is all about.

SUNSHINE VILLAGE
Sunshine’s events page is honestly pretty ridiculous right now. There’s a Winemakers Dinner on Saturday, the weekly Untracked Concert Series (starting April 1), and a whole bunch of competitions, starting with the Legend of the Village, which goes until Sunday. You’ve also got PBR Sessions on April 5 and Holy Bowly from April 29-May 5, and we’re barely scratching the surface here. That’s just a random assortment we’re mentioning in an effort to point out that if you’re looking for a little extra something to go along with your day on the mountain this spring, Sunshine has you covered.
While the Banff resort didn’t get hit with new snow this week because of the blast of almost-summer that hit the region, it looks like there’s a whole lot on the way and the season total is still 421 cm.

NORQUAY
This Sunday at Norquay, it’s all about Dopestyle. The event boasts an innovative low-impact spin on slopestyle, with a special-designed course that features jibs, bonks and side hits that will challenge snowboarders to come up with the best lines and tricks. Individuality and creativity are the name of the game.
As we said earlier, it’s a bit of a strange moment to be writing about snowfall in the Rockies. There’s definitely still lots of snow and a lot more expected imminently, but nobody got hit with much when temperatures skyrocketed over the past week. Norquay didn’t get any new snow, but the season total is 291 cm.

WINSPORT

It’s kind of hard to believe, but there’s not that much time to get out to WinSport and get in a few turns before they shut down the ski hill and start preparing for their summer operations.
It’s sad, I know, but WinSport is set to end its season on April 1. So if you’ve been thinking it might be nice to get out to the hill before you pack up your skis or snowboard, the time to do it is literally now.

NAKISKA
Nakiska got hit with 5 cm of snow overnight on Wednesday and we’re guessing that by the time most people are reading this on Thursday morning, they’re going to be celebrating even more snow at the Kananaskis resort. A friend who was out in the area on Wednesday told me it was snowing hard, so we’d expect skiers and riders who make their way to Nakiska late in the week aren’t going to have much trouble finding fresh snow to carve through. The season total is 294 cm, for those keeping track.

Also, the final Ladies Day of the season is March 27, and your day includes a lift ticket, a three-hour lesson, a gourmet lunch and an afternoon of skiing and riding with friends new and old.

CASTLE MOUNTAIN
I love the Castle Mountain snow report because they’re so refreshingly honest. They also give you a really good idea of what to expect on the mountains, and that includes both the areas that are going to be amazing and the sections that some people might want to avoid.
So while Castle didn’t get hit with any new snow over the past seven days and that’s made for challenging conditions in some areas, they’re also celebrating a forecast that is calling for legitimately massive amounts of snow in the next couple days. Should be a fun weekend.

PANORAMA
This weekend, Panorama is hosting its first-ever Pride & Ski Festival. It’s a big event. Or rather, it’s a collection of a bunch of different big, fun events and features everything from guided snowshoe tours to an amazing race to wine and painting to a drag ball to … well, they’re going all-out for their Pride festival at Panorama and it really does look like it’s going to be a tonne of fun.
We’re also eagerly anticipating the 2024 NOR AM Cup Finals, which go from April 1-11 and will feature skiers who are knocking on the door of the World Cup circuit. The stars of tomorrow, to be sure.
While Panorama didn’t get hit with any new snow this week, the season total is 324 cm.

FERNIE
When Fernie goes retro, they really, really go all-in.
There’s music and there’s people dressing up in their best ‘80s ski gear … it’s a whole thing, and they just seem to go a little bit bigger at Fernie than they do anywhere else.
So we don’t mind being a bit early when we tell Snow Scene readers that they’ve really got to make it a point to get out to Fernie’s Retro Weekend, which goes March 30-31 and features a full weekend of contests, parties and old-school fun.
Temperatures were cooling on Wednesday at Fernie and that had the forecast calling for snow. There wasn’t much of it falling from the sky in the last week, but the season total is 730 cm.

REVELSTOKE
I really do wish that I could get out to Revelstoke next weekend for the annual King and Queen of the Mountain competition. Not that I’d compete, no way, but the fusion of freestyle and freeride has always sounded like a blast and the footage that comes out of the resort is awesome. This year’s competition goes March 30-31, with Day 1 featuring freeriding under the Stoke Chair and Day 2 going down in the terrain park.
Revelstoke saw 2 cm of snowfall in the past week and the season total is 778 cm.
