SINGAPORE-BASED Swan & Maclaren Group (SMG), one of the country’s oldest architectural firms, has clinched a US$28 million tender to provide illumination systems for the Six Flags Qiddiya theme park, described as the world’s largest theme park.
Six Flags Qiddiya is located in Riyadh and is expected to be completed before 2025.
The project will be SMG’s first illumination engineering work for a mega theme park in the Middle East. It is awarded to SMC subsidiary SM C2R, by a joint venture between Bouygues Bâtiment International and Saudi Almabani General Contractors.
The work spans the development, design and engineering; manufacture, supply and delivery; and testing and commissioning of lighting and lighting control systems for the theme park.
Edwin Tan, SMG deputy group chief executive officer, said: “This is a significant illumination engineering project for us, and we are excited to work with our partners on this iconic and massive-scaled theme park project in Riyadh.”
SMG’s earlier projects included the 2018 Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony in Pyeongchang, the Venetian Macao and Marina Bay Sands. Its other award-winning architectural and master planning designs include the Shanghai Raffles Hospital, Holland Piazza (Singapore) and Garden City Lao Cai City (Vietnam).
SMG has its roots in 1892, and its work includes landmarks such as the Raffles Hotel and Goodwood Park Hotel. It has an international presence, with offices in Hong Kong, China, the UK and Saudi Arabia, among others.
