He will continue to be the company’s executive director and CEO given his plans to appeal

THE chief executive officer of Vibrant Group, Khua Kian Keong, plans to appeal against his jail sentence for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the mainboard-listed company said on Wednesday (Jul 24).

Khua will continue to be Vibrant’s executive director and CEO given his plans to appeal both the conviction and sentence, the company added.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to jail for 13-months after assaulting the former chairman of KTL Global, Tan Tock Han.

In 2021, Khua pushed Tan down a flight of stairs, causing him to suffer fractures. After a trial, the court convicted Khua on one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Tan.

The two men were allegedly in a dispute involving a S$2.4 million debt owed by Tan.

In a hearing last year, Khua said his first dealing with Tan was in December 2014 for the purchase of three million shares in KTL Global for S$396,000. The second transaction was in March 2015 for seven million shares at a total of S$1.106 million, while the third deal took place a month later for the purchase of 5.5 million shares for S$993,800.

According to The Straits Times, Khua is out on bail of S$10,000 and was ordered to surrender himself at the State Courts on Aug 7 to begin serving his sentence.

Vibrant said it will continue to monitor the situation and will take necessary steps. It also noted that it will make further announcements as necessary if there are any material developments provided by Khua.
