Now that Donald Trump is looking at imposing a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico it seems to me that it would be a good time for refining our own oil and building pipelines to all provinces so we become much more independent. Maybe the federal Lieberals and some other provincial governments will finally wake up.

John and Barb Waddell

(Sounds expensive. And what would you do once it’s all refined and piped to the provinces?)

Great job, drivers!

I want to send a thank you out there to all the bus drivers and bus riders for their patience and understanding the past few days. On the routes I take the bus drivers have done their very best to make sure everyone gets safely on board and safely off. This morning, even the passengers were helping everyone that looked like they may need help getting over snowbanks. It was pretty hard to navigate, especially for those of us a little older. So thank you to everyone who has helped.

Valerie Stephanson

(It’s nice to hear we’re all working together to make it through the winter season. Good job transit employees!)

Good call, Crowsnest Pass

As a small child growing up on Cape Breton Island, coal mining was its number one industry that drove the island’s economy. When the mines started shutting down in the mid-60’s, it immediately plunged the island into a very deep economic depression. Hundreds of families were suddenly propelled to depend on welfare checks. Thumbs-up to residents in Crowsnest Pass for choosing this path of employment and opportunity.

Donald K. Munroe

(Ready those shovels, maybe. The vote doesn’t hold much power.)

Workers shouldn’t have to pay

Regarding letters from readers sharing their negative opinion of CUPW and its workers:

Canada Post has a mandate to provide mail service to all Canadians. Many of these services lose money. They are not intended to turn a profit. Canada Post in fact subsidizes every other major parcel delivery company by delivering their parcels to remote locations at a financial loss. There is no way these costs should be on the backs of workers.

Glenn Spencer

(Maybe they should adjust what they are charging said delivery companies.)

Put on your boots, Justin

Time to take your walk in the snow, Justin. President Trump has just called out all liberal ideals by putting your policies on notice with a 25 per cent tariff. Pierre should have the common sense to close our boarders to immigration and reopen them for friendly trade that benefits our population. Deport the riff-raff, take your carbon tax dollars and spend them on carbon jet fighters and their pilots and bolster the Canadian economy. Please wear your surfing outfit while taking the snowy walk. Thanks.

Mark Williams

(You think this will be the hint he finally takes that he’s past his due date?)
