[SINGAPORE] Singapore Airlines (SIA) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) will begin operating revenue-sharing flights between Singapore and Japan from September 2025, they said in a joint statement on Thursday (Apr 17).

Joint fare products for the flights will begin sales in May 2025. This will enable both of them to offer a greater variety of fare options to customers beyond existing codeshare partnerships, they noted.

Additionally, the joint venture will enable the airlines to better coordinate flight schedules between Singapore and Japan, as well as improve connectivity between themselves.

The airlines have been working to offer further reciprocal benefits for their frequent flyer customers, through the ANA Mileage Club and KrisFlyer membership programmes. This includes the ability to earn miles on a greater number of booking classes on ANA and SIA flights, as well as coordinated corporate programmes for business travellers.

The two airlines, both members of the Star Alliance group, signed a joint venture agreement in January 2020 to pool and share resources on routes, as well as discuss and coordinate networks, flight schedules, capacity, fare pricing and inventory.

Following the 2020 deal, the airlines said on Thursday that they had significantly expanded their codeshare agreement, offering customers more travel options between Singapore and Japan.

ANA flyers are currently able to access 25 destinations across SIA’s network, while SIA customers can connect to 34 destinations across ANA’s network, including ANA’s domestic flights to 30 destinations in Japan.

The airlines intend to further expand the scope of the joint venture to other key markets such as Australia, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, subject to regulatory approvals.

Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, said: “As we align our frequent flyer and corporate travel programmes and add more markets to our commercial joint venture agreement, we can offer even greater value, better connectivity, and an exceptional experience for customers travelling between Singapore and Japan, and beyond.”

Shares of SIA were trading S$0.05 or 0.8 per cent higher at S$6.40 as at 3.40 pm on Thursday.
