I do love my mail. Greeting cards, paper bills (so I know what I am paying), and I donate to several institutions, by cheque and mailed. I also send parcels to my brother in long-time care.

How ridiculous talking about shutting down Canada Post. First of all, everyone does not have computers. Although I can send this letter on the laptop I have, it is not used for accounts of any kind or bill payments. In fact, nothing to do with other than emails, information and fun (games). But I do love my mail. Greeting cards, paper bills (so I know what I am paying), and I donate to several institutions, by cheque and mailed. I also send parcels to my brother in long-time care. I am not the only one in this situation — how about thinking beyond electronics? There are still some humans alive who can walk down the street talking to the air until you notice their ear filled with electronics. So, let’s fight to keep “the pony express” alive. I asked a worker at my local post office if they want to strike, and he said, “Oh no.” And imagine closing the rural post offices, “Nuts”

A. HESLIN

(Then Canada Post’s mandate needs to be at minimum revisited because like it or not, it costs too much to keep it going)

Return on investment

There needs to be a solution for Canada Post labour issues. They need to decide whether they’re going to be a national letter-mail carrier or an entity competing with shipping carriers. Perhaps it’s time to split the two and keep one for whatever reason, and the other for some real business. The corporation owns very valuable assets and has invested heavily in acquiring them and building infrastructure. It would be unfortunate if there is no return on all that investment.

PAUL BACON

(Only fundamental change will suffice since carrying on the way we are is not sustainable.)

Time for Danielle to go

Danielle Smith has shown she cannot be trusted by Alberta. She has a track record of betrayal. First, to the Wildrose Party years ago. Second, by going to Washington and Florida. Third, by using the Alberta taxpayers’ money to fund the two trips to the U.S. She is fanning the fires, creating fear through lies and deception that Alberta has been horribly treated by Canada. Peter Lougheed handled the Liberal gov’t with diplomacy and grace. Smith does not have the ability or intelligence to do likewise. She is not equal to the Prime Minister of Canada. She does not have the pulse of the majority of Albertans. It is time for Albertans to say enough and ask her to step down as premier. As a third-generation Albertan and whose family settled in Alberta I am disgusted with UPC’s smoke and mirrors, supported by those who believe we should separate from Canada.

R.K. GREYSON

(Alberta has legitimate concerns. Whether you think the premier is handing them properly is up to you.)
