[SINGAPORE] ST Engineering is looking to recruit more cybersecurity experts as it launches a new facility to spur innovation and develop talent, focused on developing cybersecurity solutions driven by agentic artificial intelligence (AI).

The Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence will begin operations on Dec 1, with an initial headcount of 26 cybersecurity experts.

The group aims to nearly treble this number to 81 over the next three years, ST Engineering told The Business Times.

Goh Eng Choon, president of cyber at ST Engineering, noted that with AI and quantum computing, cyberthreats are “evolving faster and becoming more sophisticated”.

He added that with the new centre, ST Engineering will be able to strengthen and develop cyberdefences that are “smarter, faster and more adaptive” to new threats.

The centre’s launch was supported by Digital Industry Singapore – a joint office by the Economic Development Board, Enterprise Singapore and Infocomm Media Development Authority – and the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore.

The centre will aim to advance agentic AI application in next-generation security operation centres, digital forensics and incident response.

Agentic AI refers to autonomous, self-learning solutions.

ST Engineering said agentic AI solutions are expected to provide broader coverage, greater precision and independent decision-making beyond traditional security operation centres’ capabilities.

Analysts note that Singtel and CSE Global are likely to benefit from the data centre boom in the US such as Project Stargate (above).
EDB managing director Jermaine Loy said Singapore accounts for 10% of global MRO output, and close to 20% of global engine MRO output.

Another key goal of the new centre is to cultivate a skilled talent pipeline in the cybersecurity sector.

It will have dedicated labs and training programmes at institutes of higher learning, including Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic.

ST Engineering said it will “train and upskill students on agentic AI solutions developed at the centre of excellence, preparing them to thrive in AI-assisted cybersecurity environments and to harness agentic AI alongside other advanced technologies”.
