[BANGKOK] Thailand’s central bank has taken action to tackle the appreciation of the baht, governor Vitai Ratanakorn said on Tuesday (Dec 16).
It is worried about the currency’s rapid rise and is tightening gold-related transactions, he said in a statement.
The strong baht is driven by a weak dollar and fund inflows, he added.
The Bank of Thailand has asked commercial banks to monitor foreign currency inflows, the statement said. REUTERS
