Deb Garries writes about Maple MAGA (‘Maple MAGA must go,’ Letters to the Editor, Friday Sun). I suppose inside the echo chamber it comes across as a real clever zinger, however to the outside world it’s just a juvenile, child-like and childish nomenclature. Maple Maga is another slogan of a Liberal Party that is bereft of any substantial solutions. Moreover, the Garries’ of this world are so predictable. If it were the other way around and Grits were crossing the floor to the Tories. She would be screaming on social media and Letters to the Editor that it is unfair and undemocratic.

Skate Canada out of line
Skate Canada couldn’t be further from the truth by coming out and cancelling events in Alberta. The fact is, a person born a biological male, regardless of whether they identify as a female, is still a male physically. If they weren’t, then gender reassignment drugs and ultimately surgery wouldn’t be necessary. Tell me, just how is it fair for a 150-lb.-plus physically male competitor to compete against a biologically born female? Even if they are the same weight, it’s a fact males are physically stronger than females. The critics cry about how this might affect kids getting into sports. I’m all for inclusivity but there has to be a point when fairness, not to mention safety, comes into play. Would you want a 175-lb. transgender girl playing linebacker against your daughter’s all-female football team? I think not! Personally, I have nothing against transgender people but there’s a place for everything and most sports that require strength is definitely not it.

Monumental ego
During the 1954 televised Army-McCarthy hearings, an exasperated Joseph N. Welch, special counsel for the U.S. Army, famously asked the notoriously promiscuous red baiter, Senator Joseph McCarthy, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” Millions of Americans no doubt mouthed that same question after President Trump savaged the memory of the late Hollywood movie icon, Rob Reiner. Blind to the grisly and tragic manner of Reiner’s death, alongside wife Michele. Trump’s monumental ego could not even allow him to squeeze out some rote rest-in-peace response.

Unions the culprits

Yet another recall of a UCP MLA? The possibility of one riding being displeased with their MLA, or even a couple of ridings in the same year, to the point where they feel the need to petition for a recall would not draw attention. However, the sheer number of petitions to recall UCP MLAs all in the current year shouts the word ‘conspiracy.’ The unions, starting with the ATA, are attempting to replace the Smith UCPs with the union-friendly Nenshi NDP. This is just so wrong! The UCP were elected by everyone in the province who voted in the last provincial election. They were the people’s choice to run our province. The unions do not represent all of those who voted. Alberta didn’t choose the NDP, and it’s not right that unions should be attempting a coup to put the NDP in power now. Elections Alberta is being used. The time for Albertans to decide who governs is during an election, not when disgruntled unions decide.
