Nancy Guthrie Update: Tommaso Cioni Video Goes Viral As Investigator Claims He Pushed Away Student Reporter
A video appearing to show Tommaso Cioni, son-in-law of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, pushing away a female student reporter’s hand has sparked debate online, with a self-described investigator sharing the footage on social media on Oct. 24, 2026, more than eight months after Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home. The video’s authenticity has not been independently verified by Hindustan Times, and authorities have previously said no members of the Guthrie family are suspects in the case.
The footage has drawn renewed attention to Cioni as the search for Guthrie continues without publicly named suspects. However, the clip does not establish any connection between Cioni and her disappearance, and online reactions to his apparent interaction with the reporter should not be treated as evidence of wrongdoing.
Video Shows Apparent Interaction With Student Reporter
Jonathan Lee Riches, who describes himself as an investigator and is known online as JLR, shared the video on social media. In the clip, Cioni appears to speak to someone holding a microphone, point toward the camera and then push the reporter’s hand away.
Riches alleged that Cioni had put his hands on a female student who was trying to interview him. In his post, he wrote, “Tommaso Cioni puts his hands on a female student trying to interview him. Pushes her hand away. Tommaso is the last person to be with Nancy Guthrie before she vanished.”
However, the video cannot be independently verified for authenticity. Some reports suggested the interview may have taken place at BASIS Oro Valley, where Cioni reportedly teaches.
The footage prompted sharply divided reactions online. One social media user, posting under the account SassyGirl985, questioned what had been asked during the interaction, writing, “Wish we could hear the question. If a question can get him that upset imagine an argument”.
Another user, posting under the account donotconsidery1, offered a different interpretation, writing, “Its a bit for school. You know, just kids and teachers trying to do something fun without thinking someone would put it on the internet implying murder.”
Other users criticized Cioni’s apparent response, while some said the footage did not justify drawing conclusions about his involvement in the disappearance.
Authorities Have Not Named a Suspect
Public scrutiny of Cioni and his wife, Annie Guthrie, has continued since Nancy Guthrie went missing. The couple attracted particular attention after reports said Nancy had dinner with Annie on the evening before her disappearance and that Cioni subsequently drove her home.
Former NewsNation journalist Ashleigh Banfield previously reported claims that Cioni might be a suspect. However, authorities have rejected claims identifying members of the Guthrie family as suspects and have clarified that no family members are suspects in the case.
The latest video does not change that position. Neither an online allegation nor a person’s apparent reaction during an interview establishes involvement in a crime.
Nancy Guthrie Has Been Missing Since February
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2026. Investigators believe she was taken from her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona, the previous night.
More than eight months later, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not publicly identified a suspect.
The circumstances surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance remain unresolved.
