The Banff National Park resort is set to stay open right into early May, and the 27 cm of fresh snow that hit the mountain over the past seven days should certainly help with that. Temperatures look like they should be hovering around freezing through much of the weekend, too, so the snow isn’t going anywhere. And the season total is sitting at 489 cm, by the way, so there’s great coverage everywhere.

There’s a lot going on at Lake Louise this spring, starting with a visit from the Easter Bunny this weekend. He’ll have a basket of chocolate, too, which is great news for anyone who can catch him.

Also, the Spring DJ Series has kicked off in the Banded Peak Base Camp. There’ll be a performance by 2DJs on Sunday at the Banded Peak Base Camp, and then shows most Saturdays going forward.

SUNSHINE VILLAGE

Part of my job is looking at Sunshine Village’s events page and trying to relay what I think readers might want to attend and I’m being completely honest right now when I say I’m finding it a little overwhelming right now. There’s legitimately a tonne going on this spring.

There’s the weekly Untracked Concert Series (starting April 1). You’ve also got the PBR Sessions on April 5 and Holy Bowly from April 29 to May 5. There’s also Shredability on April 6, which is an awesome all-mountain scavenger hunt that raises money to support adaptive programs in the Bow Valley community. It’s awesome.

There’s honestly a lot more, too, but we’ve gotta get to the part of this Snow Note where we tell you about the conditions. Sunshine got hit with 26 cm of new snow in the past week and the season total is 447 cm.

NORQUAY

Spring is a special time of year at Mount Norquay. There are traditions that date back years, like the 56th Annual Bruno Engler Memorial Ski Race, which goes down April 6. There are newer traditions, too, like Norquay’s Pride Ski Day, which is on April 12 and will be a full day celebrating the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in partnership with Banff Pride.

There’s also a Kids Rail Jam on April 14 and both the Bozo and Kinder Cups on April 20 and 21.

As we said, there’s a lot going on and it’s a special time of year.

Mother Nature is cooperating to make it a great spring, too. The last week saw 20 cm of fresh snow fall from the sky and the season total is 317 cm.

WINSPORT

It’s kind of hard to believe, but there’s not that much time to get out to WinSport and get in a few turns before they shut down the ski hill and start preparing for their summer operations.

It’s sad, I know, but WinSport is currently set to end its season on April 1. So if you’ve been thinking it might be nice to get out to the hill before you pack up your skis or snowboard, the time to do it is literally now.

Nakiska

NAKISKA

Here are the basics of what you need to know about Nakiska this weekend.

First up, they got some nice, new snow over the past week. We’re talking 20 cm in seven days and a season total that is now 312 cm.

Secondly, the Easter Bunny will be there all weekend, while DJ Tenax is putting on a show on Saturday and DJ Bunny Hops will be spinning some tracks on Sunday. Also, there’s face-painting and balloon twisting.

CASTLE

Tentatively, Castle Mountain is planning on shutting down for the summer on April 7.

Between now and then, though, it would appear that everything is happening.

They’ve got a Retro Day on April 6. That very same day, they’re doing a ski ballet, which rules. Castle’s got the Beats in the Base Spring Concert Series goes down on Saturday and Sunday for the next two weekends, and there’s an Easter Egg Hunt set for Sunday, too.

And, of course, Castle has also had an incredible March that makes you wish the season could carry on for just a little while longer. The Southern Alberta resort got blasted by 48 cm of fresh snow over the last seven days and the season total is now 636 cm.

KICKING HORSE

I spent a fair bit of time at Kicking Horse this winter and I’m legitimately very sad that the season is coming to a close on April 14. I recognize that the point of this Snow Notes section is not to illicit sympathy from readers, but I wanted to tell you that.

Anyway, there’s a Retro Party at Eagle’s Eye Restaurant on April 7, which I can only assume is going to be the most scenic retro party of 2024. The 2024 Sunsplash Funkest, which includes a dummy downhill and a slush cup, go down April 13 and 14.

Also, there’s still lots of snow. The Golden, B.C. resort saw 9 cm of fresh snowfall in the past week and the season total is now 526 cm.

PANORAMA

There’s only a few weeks left before Panorama goes absolutely huge for its season-ending final weekend, but we’ll get into their plans for going out with a bang next week.

For now, we’ve got to highlight the 2024 NOR AM Cup Finals, which just happens to be one of the biggest events of the season in the mountains. From April 1-11, the up-and-coming skiers who are knocking on the door of the World Cup circuit will be ripping down the mountain at Panorama. It should be some absolutely spectacular racing.

The Invermere, B.C. resort got hit with 9 cm of snow in the past week and the season total is 333 cm.

FERNIE

When Fernie goes retro, they really, really go all-in.

There’s music and there’s people dressing up in their best ‘80s ski gear … it’s a whole thing, and they just seem to go a little bit bigger at Fernie than they do anywhere else.

So we don’t mind being a bit early when we tell Snow Scene readers that they’ve really got to make it a point to get out to Fernie’s Retro Weekend, which goes Saturday and Sunday and features a full weekend of contests, parties and old-school fun.

The past week saw a fresh helping of snow at the B.C. resort, with the 27 cm that fell bringing the season total to 757 cm.

REVELSTOKE

This weekend at Revelstoke, it’s all about King and Queen of the Mountain competition. Not that I’d compete, no way, but the fusion of freestyle and freeride has always sounded like a blast and the footage that comes out of the resort is awesome. This year’s competition goes Saturday and Sunday, with Day 1 featuring freeriding under the Stoke Chair and Day 2 going down in the terrain park.

Revelstoke saw 13 cm of snowfall in the past week and the season total is 791 cm.
