HITACHI Digital, a subsidiary of Japanese multinational conglomerate Hitachi, will be utilising Singtel’s Paragon platform at its US facilities as part of a new collaboration.

Paragon is an all-in-one orchestration platform for 5G, edge computing and cloud. It enables connectivity to the 5G network for the secure deployment of edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) on telco infrastructure, thus reducing time-to-market.

Under its partnership with Singtel, Hitachi Digital will deploy Paragon at the Hitachi Americas’ Santa Clara R&D Labs. This will be followed by a pilot in a US factory for Industry 4.0 use cases.

The trial will specifically explore the interoperability of Hitachi AI applications on quality assurance, workplace safety, immersive training and pre-emptive maintenance on Paragon.

It will also enable the integration of Paragon with Hitachi industry cloud applications and digital services “to enable enterprises to transcend the limitations of complex, low-latency connectivity and productivity experiences”, Singtel and Hitachi Digital said jointly on Thursday (Jun 27).

Together with Paragon’s network and multi-cloud orchestration capabilities, Hitachi’s pre-built industrial AI applications will be used to create multiple Paragon-related offerings.

Such offerings will help clients improve and accelerate their cloud operations, said both companies.

Another unit, Hitachi Digital Services, will subsequently go to market with these offerings as a Singtel Paragon-authorised system integrator. This in turn would present a “unique value proposition to enterprise customers looking to leverage multiple network protocols in delivering digital transformation in industrial settings”.

Singtel and Hitachi Digital said that their collaboration will “greatly benefit organisations seeking to address industrial AI complexity”, as it brings together interoperable solutions with expert delivery services. They observed: “Organisations have often struggled with industrial 5G deployments because of complex and fragmented solutions. AI has added a new layer of complexity to this equation as organisations now also attempt to accelerate AI adoption in these scenarios.”
