Don’t you just love it? Trump and Vance are complaining that they want to run against Biden and not against Kamala Harris. How petty and infantile is that? That’s like people complaining about someone who puts up a ‘Beware of Dog’ sign in their yard (to discourage burglars) when they do not own a dog.

(They saw Biden as easy pickings.)

Time to go

After Donald Trump was injured from a shooter recently, President Joe Biden was quoted as saying, “the idea that there’s violence in America like this is just unheard of.” Are you kidding me?! America was founded on violence and is the most gun-happy nation on earth. There’s a mass shooting in America on average every single day of the year. This is another reason Biden must go. He is so out of touch with reality and hasn’t a clue of what’s going on around him. Because of his age and medical condition he shouldn’t run again for president.

(Seems like most people are on board with that assessment.)

Things getting complex

I was reading your Driving section and noticed the headline “11-year-old Mazdas rendered undrivable by hard-to-find part.” In this case the part was only available for seven years after it was first used in 2012. I thought there was a minimum 10-year part-availability requirement for cars in Canada. While a clever engineer might figure out a work-around for this part, we should all be concerned about the computers needed to keep modern cars running — especially EVs. If there is no requirement to make high-ticket items, like cars, serviceable for at least 10 years then consumers are in for a very uncertain and expensive future. Governments need to make sure vehicles are repairable, otherwise consumers could be bankrupted. Filling landfills or wreckers yards with relatively new cars will also be disastrous for the environment.

(Gone are the days of motorists doing most repairs themselves.)

Big bill is coming

Where do people get the idea mitigating climate change is too expensive? It’s like saying it’s too expensive to do dental checkups, so just pay for a root canal later on. Anthropogenic climate change is going to increase the frequency of extreme weather events, leading to flooding, hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes and more, whose damage is expensive to repair. An insurance exec put it best: “You don’t have to believe in climate change, but you do have to pay for it.”
