US: Wall Street opens higher as jobs data eases slowdown fears


WALL Street’s main indices opened higher on Thursday (Aug 8), bolstered by better-than-expected labour market data that eased worries of a slowdown in the world’s largest economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 176.9 points, or 0.46 per cent, at the open to 38,940.38.

The S&P 500 rose 53.1 points, or 1.02 per cent, to 5,252.57​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 212.5 points, or 1.31 per cent, to 16,408.265. REUTERS
