These super jumbos are particularly useful to increase capacity in slot-constrained airports given their seat capacity, say consultants
CARRIERS – which had during the pandemic consigned the aircraft type Airbus A380 to storage with some meant for subsequent scrapping – are re-deploying the super jumbo plane as a stop-gap measure to tackle a shortage of planes amid delivery delays by planemakers.
Such a move has not only given the aircraft a new lease of life, but also maintenance, repair and overhaul players a business opportunity.
According to Mabel Kwan, a managing director at Alton Aviation Consultancy, there were 171 A380s in service or 83 per cent of the global fleet of the aircraft as at end-September, using the statistics from CAPA.
