People complain few qualified persons are running for political office. However, social media scrutinizes every move one makes. PM Carney is qualified but facing a tariff war and decades of Canada’s dependence on U.S. trade. He’s supporting tariff-affected industries and projects to increase international trade. He is facing 10 years of past deficit spending and needs monies for the above. Premier Smith praised Carney for supporting the five projects while talking to him about possible Alberta projects, eh?!

She has to go
All this talk about our mayor candidates bringing up Mayor Gondek’s past. Of course it’s playing politics. What else can you do? Please tell me something positive she’s done. She doesn’t care about infrastructure, snow removal, Christmas ceremonies, road conditions, small businesses in Calgary … especially Marda Loop. I could go on about making the new arena costing double because of her … and on and on and on. She needs to go before she raises property and home taxes AGAIN!

Tighten the pursestrings
The Alberta government is projecting a $6.5-billion deficit for this fiscal year. Oil prices are way down. No doubt they plan to borrow money, which is too easy. Governments need to cut costs in other bloated departmental budgets. In perspective, this $6.5 billion is the same amount we will spend on the scaled-down Green Line LRT. So, a few people in Calgary will be serviced for a vast amount of taxpayers’ money. But the LRT money is coming from all levels of government, you will say. Just one thing: there is only one taxpayer and that’s us; we pay it all. The only good thing is we don’t have an NDP government. Then the deficit would be through the roof. From 2015-19, the NDP added $10 billion-plus every year. Yes, $40 billion in extra debt. We can’t follow that poor example.

Make-believe problems
Re “Judge Carney by what he promised” (Editorial, Sept. 16): Another typical Liberal ‘solution’ to a problem they created. This time, the arsonists/firefighters have chosen to throw away $13 billion on house building. The fact is, we don’t have a housing problem, but we do have an immigration problem that they created. The feds need to do two things. 1. Put a moratorium on new immigrants and get rid of those who are not legally entitled to be here, and 2. I’m tired of my money being thrown away on make-believe problems.
