The new PM is similar to the old PM. He jets around the world ignoring domestic problems. He is going to, if you can believe it, have a bigger deficit than JT. He favours the eastern provinces. Ontario voters are not afraid of deficits, Quebec is only worried about Quebec. Prairie provinces lean conservative. These regional political patterns will not change. It is what it is.

On charter schools…
Alberta teachers are on strike for more money, but the Alberta government says they can’t afford to pay them what they want. I don’t think many citizens of this province realize the government of Alberta is funding the private and charter schools in this province. The government SHOULD NOT BE FUNDING THESE SCHOOLS when we have a public system. If parents want to send their children to private or charter schools, they (the parents) should pay the complete cost for doing so. This would allow more money to go to the public system.

Some math about teachers
(Re: Sims – ‘Alberta teachers should be ready for a long strike,’ Calgary Sun, Oct. 8.) Sims had a lot of so-called facts about teachers. I wonder if she also thinks the MLAs, who earn tens of thousands more than teachers, with more time off, should get a pay cut? And, highest paid in Western Canada? Well, that’s Alberta’s 2027 wages for only some, is after taxes (are tax cuts part of our wages now?) and doesn’t account for the proven extra hours Alberta teachers work, nor the added complexities. I guess we don’t pay for extra working hours and greater responsibilities in jobs now.

Sharp in the battle
(Re: Bell – ‘Wake-Up Calgary! Sonya Sharp rips new-look Farkas,’ Calgary Sun, Oct. 11.) I am guessing Jeromy Farkas is getting tired of hiking up mountains after mountains. So, he wants an inside job for the next four years, at least until October 2029? But, he has some fierce competition for the top job at Calgary city hall. And her name is Sonya Sharp. While Farkas was climbing mountains, Sharp was battling it out for her constituents in Ward 1 for the last four years.

Gone, but not forgotten
Moody Blues bassist John Lodge passed at age 82. The Moody Blues is still a favourite band of mine. What classic songs: Nights in White Satin, I’m Just a Singer in a Rock-n’-Roll Band, Story in Your Eyes, Isn’t Life Strange. Condolences to his family and friends.
