When I got home today and went to shovel my sidewalk, there was an army of junior high students coming up the street armed with snow shovels, clearing the sidewalks. A big thank-you to Mountain Park Middle School for helping out the local community.

RIP, Jimmy Cliff

I am deeply saddened to hear of Jimmy Cliff‘s passing. A true pioneer whose songs and spirit helped carry reggae across the world. His influence shaped generations of artists and listeners, and his legacy will continue to shine. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Bogus recalls

These recall actions are getting completely out of hand. It boggles my mind a so-called nonpartisan organization like Alberta Resistance can legitimately make a mockery of the democratic system. Consider, if you will, people have six days to cast legitimate ballots in a democratic election. Barring mail-in ballots, five days of being able to vote early and one day of actually voting at polling stations. Don’t like the results or just plain too lazy to turn off the TV and go out and cast a ballot? No worries, some left-leaning organization funded by God knows who will summit a bogus recall action and show up at your grocery store parking lot or even knock on your door asking for signatures to squash the election results in your district. You won’t miss a minute of your favourite TV show and they have well over a month to get you to sign. Voter apathy isn’t a weakness for these guys, it’s a strength, and they totally count on it. They’d love nothing more than to waste taxpayer dollars by forcing byelections and give their preferred candidates another kick at the can. It’s not their money paying for it, it’s yours.

JOHN HANCOCK

(It is, indeed, out of hand)

Conflict oil still flows

Carney in talks with Arab leaders has, in a way, confirmed the West, East pipeline proposed in Canada will never happen, but Middle East conflict oil will still flow to the East Coast of Canada daily. Tankers come to the East Coast daily to unload Middle East conflict oil. While on the West Coast an NDP leader is holding back billions of future dollars for First Nations, telling them no B.C. pipeline. The benefit of pipelines is for all people of Canada. No wonder the NDP are a bad vote for taxes.

WAYNE ROBERTSON
