US stock indexes slumped at the open on Friday (Aug 2), with the Nasdaq on track to confirm it was in a correction, after weak employment numbers exacerbated worries of a slowdown in the economy, with Amazon and Intel’s slumping on downbeat forecasts.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 272.6 points, or 0.68 per cent, at the open to 40,075.33.
The S&P 500 fell 70.1 points, or 1.29 per cent, at the open to 5,376.63, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 413.7 points, or 2.41 per cent, to 16,780.446 at the opening bell. REUTERS
