ON A WING AND A PRAYER

Re: Oh, Canada! Who stands on guard? Editorial, Aug. 17
In answer to this serious question, it certainly is not the Justin Trudeau government, whose immigration and refugee policies are only concerned with taking in the largest numbers possible and not conducting proper security screening. There is zero possibility to properly vet 500,000 immigrants annually.
Trudeau seems to operate on a wing and a prayer and is not taking seriously his primary duty to ensure Canada’s national security is not compromised. There is no doubt terrorists view Canada as an easy place to enter, which provides safe haven to them.
Trudeau is much more concerned with virtue signalling while increasing his voting base than with protecting Canadians from terrorists.

NO NEED TO TAKE A STAND
Re: Pride and prejudice? Jewish Federation of Ottawa pulls out of Capital Pride parade following pro-Palestinian statement, Aug. 16
There is no need for Capital Pride to take a stand on an issue in a foreign country that is not directly related to 2SLGBTQ+ rights.
There are a number of international conflicts or territorial disputes where people are dying or being oppressed. Taking a stand in such conflicts could dilute the role of Capital Pride. Staying silent on any of these conflicts does not mean that Capital Pride is being complicit.

Just focus on the teaching
I believe that under the School Act in Alberta, the principal and teachers are responsible for the students from the time they leave home until they return after classes. If they are using their cell phones during class, they are not learning. Just enforce the regulations and seize the phones instead of whining about depriving students of an expensive phone. Do your jobs teachers!

(A lot to unpack there, but maybe the onus should be on the students to put phones away.)
Time to get united
With the coming rail strike I think we need to look at the value of unions and what they have cost us in increased costs. We have big unions in Canada and what benefits do they provide to the general public? They continue to want higher wages and reduce their productivity. Bad employees are protected, our government workers at all levels do not appear to work very hard and are hired for life. Time for a change, unions should not be allowed to hold the public hostage due to big demands.

(Touchy subject there. Union members are almost always pro union, maybe you need to find one to join.)
