“I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from,” Matty shared. “I’m just not interested in it. The idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is gonna be like two years old, I see people doing that as well, and it’s not interesting.”
The “About You” singer admitted he “used to write about relationships a lot more” using “journal entries and little bits of heartbreak,” but now prefers to write music to start a conversation.
“My work is, I hope, interesting art pop,” he said, “that maybe helps popularize academic subjects that I’m really interested in.”
