Is Mr. Fantasy KJ Apa’s Alter Ego? Riverdale Alum Accuses TikTok Star of Identity Theft

Riverdale star KJ Apa recently took to Instagram, accusing a TikTok star, identified as Mr. Fanatasy, of stealing his identity. The New Zealand-born actor made the claims after a May 1 music video of Mr. Fantasy featured several of the former’s colleagues and friends.

“There has been something going on for a long time that I haven’t addressed because I didn’t even think it was worth addressing,” Apa said in a dramatic video shared on this week. “But now, because of how it has impacted my life personally, I feel like I have to talk about it… because it’s hurting me and my career.”

He also expressed his frustration over online claims that he is actually Mr. Fantasy.

“There was recently a music video that was released that included a bunch of people who are really close to me by a guy who’s completely and utterly stolen my image, and misappropriated my image and my likeness, and I think we all know who we’re talking about, and it’s f—ed up,” Apa explained. “It’s f—ed up because I just lost on a huge job and can no longer go in for serious work because people think that I’m a joke because of this guy.”

Is Mr. Fantasy KJ APA’s Alter Ego?

When the mysterious singer known as Mr. Fantasy surfaced on TikTok last year, fans quickly speculated that the performer was secretly Riverdale actor KJ Apa despite repeated denials from the star.

Now, however, The U.S. Sun claims it has found new evidence suggesting the 28-year-old actor and Mr. Fantasy could indeed be the same person, pointing to similarities ranging from facial features to matching tattoos.

The news outlet also pointed out how Mr. Fantasy’s recent video Do Me Right features K.J.’s Riverdale co-stars Madelaine Petsch, Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes. (K.J.’s other friends like Patrick Schwarzenegger, Zoey Deutch, Nick Jonas, Alex Warren, and Dave Franco, have also appeared in Mr. Fantasy’s past videos.)

Over the past few months, fans also noticed the singer had the same chest and shoulder tattoos as K.J.

Who is Mr Fantasy?

Mr Fantasy is a musician and influencer who began gaining traction online last year, partially for his music and flamboyant appearance, and partially due to his uncanny resemblance to KJ Apa. Underneath his long, Lord Farquaad-esque wig, it’s easy to see how he looks very similar to the Riverdale actor. They also share the same tattoos and identical builds.

Mr Fantasy debuted his first single, the self-titled ‘Mr Fantasy’ on Sept. 6, 2025. Since then, he’s released a slew of singles, ‘Wayuwanna’, ‘Catapult’, and ‘One Last Night’, and of course, the most recent ‘Do Me Right’. He is planning to release his debut album ‘FANTASYLAND’ on June 26.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Mr. Fantasy explains a little about who he is. He says, “Why the name ‘Mr. Fantasy’? If you search up ‘Mr. Fantasy’ on Google, the definition will say the faculty or activity of imagination, especially the improbable and impossible. There is nothing that is impossible. There is nothing that is improbable for me because I do truly believe that I can achieve whatever I believe. Mr. Fantasy represents the dreams and aspirations of those who don’t believe in themselves.”

Mr Fantasy has dodged and avoided questions from journalists asking him to confirm whether or not he is the alter-ego of KJ Apa. He also has not yet responded to KJ Apa’s Instagram post about him.

Several of KJ Apa’s close friends in the industry and others have weighed in on the issue, expressing sympathy for KJ Apa’s plight in his Instagram comment section.

Actress Madelyn Cline commented, “Identity theft is not a joke.”

Twilight actor Taylor Lautner said, “I was a huge fan of his man but your right, this has to end.”

Actress Zoey Deutch commented the following: “Hi I am really sorry I agreed to do the music video with him. I had no idea it was affecting your life like this. I obviously won’t engage anymore with him and just feel really bad about the whole thing. I hope you can accept my apology.”

Emily in Paris star Ashley Park said, “This is exactly correct.”

Dancer and choreographer Derek Hough commented, “Bro , I’ve never met you before but I feel bad now that I’ve become so close with someone who has become a legend in so many lives. I hope you guys can find a middle ground. Prays to you.”

Meanwhile, fans online have also responded to the controversy, more convinced than ever that KJ Apa and Mr Fantasy are the same person.

One X user commented on the ‘Do Me Right’ music video, saying, “and we’re supposed to just believe this is not kj apa “
