Singapore: 84-Year-Old Woman Rescued After Being Trapped Under Car Near Jalan Besar


An 84-year-old woman was rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) after she became pinned underneath a car following an accident near Jalan Besar on Sunday, May 10.

The SCDF said that it was informed about the incident near Block 25 Jalan Berseh at around 10.15 am. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the elderly pedestrian trapped beneath the vehicle.

The officers used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the woman from under the car. According to police, she was conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical treatment.

A photo published by Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News showed more than 10 SCDF personnel gathered around the vehicle during the rescue operation.

A passer-by told the newspaper that it took rescuers approximately 15 minutes to extricate the woman safely.

Shin Min also reported that the driver involved was believed to be a private-hire driver. The man reportedly told reporters that he had been picking up a passenger when the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, the police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
