Who Is Caleb Flynn’s Mistress? American Idol Star Cheated on Wife and Sent Lover Tests that He Wanted to Kill Her

A former American Idol contestant accused of murdering his wife broke down in court as jurors heard about texts he allegedly sent to his mistress outlining his desire to kill her. Caleb Flynn, 40, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley, 37, at their home in Tipp City, Ohio, in February this year.

Flynn’s trial began on Friday, with prosecutors pointing to more than 100,000 messages he allegedly exchanged with a woman with whom he was having an affair. Prosecutors said the messages included statements from Flynn, who appeared on the talent show in 2013, expressing a desire to have Ashley killed.

Dark Secrets Coming Out

During Friday’s opening statements, Prosecutor Paul M. Watkins said Flynn, a father of two, was involved in a “yearslong” affair with the unidentified woman. Watkins alleged that Flynn sent his mistress a message saying: “If I could literally kill her and not go to hell I would do it in a heartbeat. That is how dark and hateful I feel.”

In another message, Watkins alleged Flynn wrote: “I was up until 4AM last night crying. Literally crying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail.”

Watkins added: “Those two messages are Caleb Flynn’s own words, words communicated to his mistress. Those messages were sent months apart.”

Flynn’s defense admitted the affair but argued that prosecutors had based their case on a theory they would not be able to establish beyond a reasonable doubt.

Defense attorney Emily Smith told the court: “The evidence will show text messages between Caleb and his mistress. At times, Caleb said hurtful, selfish things about his wife Ashley to appease his mistress.

“They will also demonstrate that he was texting his mistress about making plans regarding a divorce throughout the time of their relationship.”

Flynn broke down in tears when jurors heard the 911 call he made.

He could be heard telling a dispatcher: “Somebody broke into my home – somebody broke into my home and shot my wife. My wife, she’s got two shots to her head. There’s blood everywhere. Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.”

Grim Discovery

Ashley was found dead at home on February 16 after Flynn reported that someone broke into the home. Authorities later arrested him and accused him of staging the crime scene to mislead investigators. Flynn faces charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Caleb used a 9mm handgun to shoot Ashley in the head while their children were asleep in nearby rooms, court documents show.

Dispatch logs show officers were sent to the home after a burglary report. The garage door was open, raising the possibility that an intruder could still be inside.

Officers found Ashley in the master bedroom and had suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

Flynn told investigators that he was sleeping on the couch because he was not feeling well. He said he woke after hearing something in his daughter’s room.

Police bodycam footage showed Flynn crying and appearing visibly distressed. He was heard saying, “Oh my God,” before asking an officer about his wife: “Is she gone?”

During a phone call to his mother, Flynn said: “Ashley’s dead – mommy, she’s gone – I don’t know what to do.”

He was later seen vomiting and saying he was “gonna be sick.” In another section, he lost his footing before speaking with a relative.

Caleb told the woman, identified as the grandmother of the two girls: “the girls don’t know.”
