- Oliver Glasner has signed a three-year contract as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach
- The Austrian replaces Vitor Pereira after guiding Crystal Palace to multiple trophies
- Glasner becomes Forest’s fifth permanent managerial appointment in less than a year
- The 51-year-old says his goal is to help Forest reach “the next level”
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Oliver Glasner as the club’s new head coach, handing the Austrian a three-year contract following a highly successful spell at Crystal Palace.
The 51-year-old succeeds Vitor Pereira after Forest opted for another managerial change despite securing Premier League survival and reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals last season. Glasner arrives with one of the strongest recent managerial résumés in European football, having guided Crystal Palace to the first major trophies in the club’s history.
During his time at Selhurst Park, Glasner led Palace to victory in the 2025 FA Cup before adding the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Conference League, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most highly regarded coaches. Before his move to England, he also won the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt, becoming one of only a handful of managers to lift both of UEFA’s major club competitions.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis described Glasner as the ideal candidate to lead the club’s long-term ambitions, praising his winning mentality, tactical expertise and ability to build competitive teams. Marinakis said the club’s objective is not simply to compete in England and Europe but to challenge consistently for major honours.
Speaking after his appointment, Glasner said he was convinced by Forest’s long-term vision during discussions with the club’s hierarchy. He highlighted the trust shown by the ownership and the potential within the current squad as decisive factors in accepting the role.
“I’m delighted to join Nottingham Forest as head coach,” Glasner said. “From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust in me and my staff to build a strong future together.”
The Austrian also pointed to Forest’s rich history as two-time European champions and the passion of the club’s supporters, saying he aims to build a team capable of taking the club “to the next level” while making fans proud. He added that his immediate priority is beginning pre-season preparations and getting to know the players and coaching staff.
Glasner’s appointment comes after a tense period between Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. The clubs were involved in discussions surrounding UEFA’s multi-club ownership regulations after Palace were demoted from the UEFA Conference League because of former co-owner John Textor’s interests in multiple clubs. Forest ultimately benefited from Palace’s removal from the competition before later appointing the Eagles’ head coach.
Regarded for his organized, high-intensity and attack-minded style of football, Glasner now faces the task of building on Forest’s recent progress while meeting the ambitious expectations set by Marinakis. His arrival signals the beginning of another new era at the City Ground as Forest look to establish themselves among England’s leading clubs and become regular contenders in European competition.
