Consortiums led by Keppel, Sembcorp-SLNG shortlisted for ammonia power and bunkering project
EMA and MPA will select one of the two bidders as the project’s lead developer by the first quarter of 2025
THE Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) shortlisted two consortiums for the next round of proposal evaluation of an ammonia power and bunkering project.
The project aims to develop a low or zero-carbon ammonia solution on Jurong Island, said both authorities on Thursday (Jul 25).
The chosen consortiums are Keppel’s infrastructure division and Sembcorp-Singapore LNG (SLNG). They will conduct engineering, safety and emergency response studies for the proposed project.
The bunkering players are Itochu, Nippon Yusen and Sumitomo.
EMA and MPA will select one of the two bidders as the project’s lead developer by the first quarter of 2025.
The lead developer will create the end-to-end ammonia solution. The solution includes generating 55 to 65 megawatts of electricity from imported low or zero-carbon ammonia via direct combustion in a combined cycle power plant.
It will also facilitate ammonia bunkering at a capacity of at least 100,000 tonnes per annum, starting with supplies onshore followed by ship-to-ship bunkering.
The project is part of Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy that was launched in 2022. It includes the Republic’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
An expression of interest for the ammonia project was launched in 2022. In the following year, six developers were shortlisted to participate in a request for proposal. The chosen consortiums were part of the six.
